Features of the interconnection of the abilities of the general and social intellect in men and women

Abstract:
The article summarizes the notions of differences in the intellectual abilities of males and females at different stages of ontogeny. Particular attention is paid to the peculiarities of the social intellect men and women and also the nature of their interrelationship. The paper presents the results of a comparative empirical study of the nature of the interrelationships between the abilities of general and social intelligence in men and women at the age of early adulthood. The study was carried out using of the test of intelligence of J. Wechsler and methods of research of social intelligence of J. Guilford M. Salivann. It was shown that in both study groups the overall level of academic and social intelligence were related by a statistically significant positive relationship. In both groups, the results of subtests, which determine the stock of relatively simple information and knowledge, long-term memory, the ability to judge, the understanding of the meaning of expressions, social norms and the ability to organize fragments into a logical whole, to understand the situation and anticipate events. It is shown that the ability to understand the logic of the development of interaction situations, the values of people´s behavior in these situations, was associated most closely with the abilities of the general intellect in men and women. It is revealed that the abilities of social intelligence are less closely related to the overall intellectual abilities in the female group than in the male group.
