Analysis and evaluation of anthropometric body mass index (BMI) in women of childbearing age in Bulgaria

Abstract:
Problem: Changes in anthropometric indicators of body mass index (BMI, kg/m2) in young women directly correlate with the risks associated with reproductive health, the progress and the outcome of subsequent pregnancies. Normal values are: BMI from 18.5 to 24.99 kg/m2; maximum: BMI <18.5 kg/m2 and BMI> 30,0 kg/m2 (thinness/obesity). The aim of this work is to conduct expert analysis and assessment of BMI in women of childbearing age in Bulgaria. The study involved 329 younger women aged 19 to 30 years of urban/rural and entire country in General. Used uniform methodology for the who. The results showed that: 59,8 % of women of childbearing age have normal body weight; 17.3% are underweight body; 22.8 percent are overweight and obese. It is concluded that the assessment of anthropometric status justifies the need to develop educational programs to optimize power, which is a key factor for reproductive health.
