Favorable medical and biological effects of functional foods

Abstract:
Problem: Biologically active functional components in foods have a beneficial effect on one or more functions of the body, apart from conventional adequate nutritional effects, and probably improve health - physical and/or mental condition, reducing the risk of occurrence and development of diseases. The subject of the study is the expert analysis of the medical and biological effects of currently used functional components of functional foods to reduce the risk of chronic noncommunicable diseases. Commented recognized functional effects of dietary fiber, plant sterols, soy protein, antioxidants, certain vitamins, minerals, probiotics, vitamins 6, 12 and folic acid in the regulation of serum levels of homocysteine and others. It is concluded that the functional components installed by the favorable effect are a reliable resource for creating new functional foods to maintain health and reduce the risk of chronic non-communicable diseases.
